Sorry for the rather draconian welcome but in setting this Forum up we (David Pulley, James Truelove and me Simon Allen) have found we have had a few attacks from automated software whose owners think they can use this board to promote their wares.  "You can get your message out there" is one of the phrases used by the pedlar of  such software extolling its virtues.  My view is that he can go and set up his own forum  and put his message in that.

So to introductions.  I am currently the secretary of Esas.  I have been interested in astronomy from very early in my life.  I think I am curious by nature and that led me to read many science fiction books and science facts  and to take up observing initially just with my eyes and a star atlas as I learned my way around.  I need to revisit some of that.

I have also been responsible for drafting the constitution of the Society and applying fro Charitable Status, which was eventually successful.

I am moderator this board with others and contribute to the website.

I have an 8" Meade LX50 which really needs a permanent home and I hope at some point to convert my dilapidated garden shed into an observatory when I will be freed of the curse of lugging all the stuff outside only to find it has clouded over.  Ultimately I would like a telescope with  a Goto and to view images from the warmth of my home.

Hi All, have just joined ESAS and was very impressed with the guest speaker at my first meeting - Dr Chris Lintott, was a great presentation, fun and interesting.  Met a few members and everyone was really friendly.  Will be going to Rosemary & Lesters beginners evening and looking forward to that.  Look forward to meeting more of you all in the near future....   Smiley

Hi there.  My name is Doug, and I am a member of the Orpington Astronomical Society.  Having seen a post by one of your members, I thought that contacting another Astronomical Society might be a worth while thing to do, as different views and images are always interesting to see.  I have two `scopes, an 1145mm Skywatcher reflector and a Synscan 102mm refractor, but as yet, no imaging with laptops, only hand-held mini camara images.

Being new to this computer thingy, I could not find the correct place to introduce myself; hence here.  There seemed to be no "post" button to click on.  Never mind, `ere I am.

It would be nice to hear from you; I look forward to it.

Hi,

I have always been awes by the night sky, and stumbled across this website while perusing the net.
I hope to get more active with this little interest of mine, and think this is a great place to start!

Hi Emma

I am unsure whether you are local but you are most welcome to attend our meetings.  As you have probably seen from our website we meet on the first Thursday of the month.  Our next meeting is 3rd December and we have Peter Gill talking on our Sun.  Peter is from the Eastbourne AS.

We look forward to seeing you.

Regards

David
