Education & School talks

An open invitation to all educational establishments, scout groups, women's Institutes, societies and clubs.

ESAS is a progressive society that encourages Astronomy to all, as part of our constitution we are committed to promoting astronomy in schools. Astronomy in the National Curriculum we have found has been overlooked, ESAS is able to fill some of the gaps that can not normally be taught, we will come to your school and present astronomy in a fun and practical way, that is easy to understand.

Our presentations come in many forms which include interactive talks with graphic presentations, up to the minute information, and news  on  the latest discoveries.  Evening presentations are favoured due to the possibility of observing through our societies telescopes.  Which include 10” Mead, 9” Dobsonian, 5” MEADE with computer control, and various other smaller scopes and binoculars.  Talks during the day can possibly be arranged, please contact us for further information.

We are currently offering schools the opportunity to set up star gazing evenings giving children and their parents the chance to look through the telescopes. The evening could take the form of a barbeque, we would set up our telescopes outside, give a short talk and slide show (based on the key-stage 2 level), show how the various designs of telescopes work and finally do some star gazing (weather permitting).

The teachers I have spoken to have all thought this to be a great idea; a way of getting the whole community involved with the school.

We are currently in the process of setting everything up, but if you would be interested  in your own star gazing evening or short talk then please contact us. We are currently looking into charitable status for our society, and as such do not charge for the visit, but we  do run on donations and membership fees.
